Church Planters

What does it take to be a church planter?

There are many good resources that describe the qualities a person needs in order to be a successful churchplanter. There are many similarities among these lists and some significant differences. A church planter must have some core qualities engrained in their being, but there are other qualities that may be helpful in a certain location, time or culture that would not be helpful (or could even be damaging) in another. In the Greater Toronto Area, we have our own unique blend of needs and challenges that require a special blend:

Basic Core Elements:

  • A tender heart
Jesus prioritized the poor, sick and outcast. Does your heart beat like His?
  • A teachable spirit
Are you open to new ideas? Ready to learn from the successes and failures of others?
  • An Entrepreneurial Outlook
Church planting is about new things; can you see and take advantage of emerging opportunities?

Toronto-Specific Values:

  • Identifying and engaging a unique form of Canadian culture
Toronto is all Canada, but it is not Winipeg, St. Johns or Vancouver.
  • A controled aggressiveness
Most Torontonians don't appreciate an "in your face" approach to anything, especially religion. But the urgency of our task requires a determined and unflinching resolve.
